1299.jpg

(PICTURED ABOVE): 1299. Acrylic on paper, 2020. “The year was 1299 when Sang Nila Utama, a Srivijayan prince from South Sumatra of Indonesia discovered the island of Singapore while he was out hunting a stag in the forested areas of Bintan.”-taken from someplace on the internet.

There are many variations to this particular story that tells of how Singapore-the-island was discovered. Knowing my lack of awareness or understanding about the origins of this land, I decided to depict the story of Sang Nila Utama by following Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey narrative structure, to perhaps serve as a reminder that I am surrounded by stories told through a particular lens. And with that, to also be mindful of the existence of untold stories (from a great many different lens and perspectives) that I may never come to know of. (SOLD)

Channel con Caca.jpg

(PICTURED ABOVE): Channel con Caca. Acrylic on paper, 2020. This was made as I have an allergy to hearing the sentence “you have to go through the proper channels”, because that statement is almost always referring to ‘channels’ that are filled with some batshit level of insanity. (SOLD)
